North Mississippi Heron Rookery Rescue

On May 21, 2011 a tornado ripped through north Minneapolis (MN) killing one person and injuring many others. It also hit a large heron rookery on an Island in the Mississppi River within the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area. Two days later National Park Rangers, a Minnesota Department of Natural Resources conservation officer, and Humane Society staff boated to the island to survey the damage and rescue injured birds.
